Queens, NY – Travel Guide

Queens is a crescent-shaped borough that includes two of the major New York City airports – John F. Kennedy International (JFK) and LaGuardia (LGA). It also contains the largest ethnic diversity compared to any other region in the world. For example, Jackson Heights includes an enormous Indian area, which is closely followed by Columbian and Mexican areas. Each of these areas offers a wide variety of native-style cuisine, shops, and authentic festivals. In fact, when it comes to tourism in the country, Queens is not Manhattan or even Brooklyn for that matter. But more and more tourists are visiting this borough realizing the great diversity it offers. There is history, culture, food and sceneries in Queens without the prices or crowds of Manhattan. There are so many tourist’s attractions in Queens. This is why there is an influx of tourists to this tiny destination from the past few years. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the travel opportunities in Queens, NY.
Queens is home to numerous flushing meadows. Corona Park is the most famous in this regard. It was the official site of the World’s Fairs in 1939 and 1964. The area around the park has a museum, which still consists of important architectural and artistic relics of these events. The Unisphere, which is a 300-ton spherical grid of steel, is housed in this museum. The Unisphere is still considered the world’s largest globe. The northern end of this old fair ground now houses the Citi Field, which is considered the home of New York’s Mets professional baseball team. Going further north, one may access the edge of the marina along the Long Island Sound. This park also houses a zoo, a science museum and pedal boats. It plays host to frequent special events in the region.
Queens contains many district neighborhoods. Most of them are so diverse ethnically. Long Island City is one such district. Even though Long Island City was traditionally industrial, it is now home to a rising arts community. Astoria is very popular with its large Greek population. It is also accompanied by people from Asian, European and Latin American countries. The area contains many trendy shops and restaurants. Steinway Street is considered the primary shopping district of the area. Jackson Heights is another area with a large South Asian population. It contains so many Indian restaurants, shops and groceries, including a Bollywood movie theater. The rest of the neighborhood has quite a diverse Latino population. It is represented by residents from Argentina, Mexico, and Chile. Flushing-Northeast is another district with a large Chinese community. There are also Korean and Indian communities in the area. Forest Park is considered a large park in the center of Queens and the surrounding neighborhoods. Jamaica is another district that is considered the transportation hub of Queens. It is the primarily black neighborhood with the King Manor Museum and unique cultural venues that are geared towards African American arts. The Rockaways is a popular summer resort area since the 1830s. It consists of a mixture of lower-middle and upper-middle neighborhoods.
Pedestrians and bicycles can cross all the bridges in the area except for Whitestone and Throgs Neck. Remember that Queens is enormous, and it will not be suitable for a walking tour. Most visitors to Queens spend most of their time on the bus to and from one of the two airports in Queens. You should plan for a proper tour in Queens if you are visiting the area. It is best to get hold of an experienced driver for this purpose. Only a brave driver can navigate the space cleverly. An inexperienced driver may find the roads in Queens to touch to navigate. You may waste your time in the area if you hire such a driver for your trip. Keep this in mind when you plan to visit Queens. However, a lot of the city can be seen by subway. A trip to the “7” Train is a cultural experience in itself. The seven would run elevated through most of Queens. In fact, you will be able to get a much better idea about the borough looking through the windows of the 7. If you are planning a trip to Queens, do not forget to plan to have at least three meals from three different ethnic enclaves. There are many other subways of getting in and out of the borough. The Long Island Rail Road also makes several stops in Queens. The main line will run through Central Queens while the Port Washington line will run from the north shore, which includes a stop in Flushing. There are express buses that stop in Rockaways and Eastern Queens. Local buses that travel to midtown Manhattan include Q101, Q32, and Q60. The M60 goes to Manhattan from the LaGuardia Airport.
Queens is a quite diverse borough in character and density. Western Queens is close to Manhattan, and it is urban. Much of the Eastern Queens area is suburban for that matter. The closer you get to Manhattan, the rarer you will find stand-alone homes. Queens’ most prominent skyscraper is the Citibank building, which is directly located across the East River. This building has 50-stories and is considered the tallest building in the New York State located outside of Manhattan. The Contemporary Art Center and Steinway & Sons Pianos are two other prominent buildings in this area. There are some museums situated in Long Island City, which include African Art & Sculpture Center, Museum of the Moving Image and Isamu Noguchi Sculpture Museum. The Bohemian Hall is an excellent beer garden in Astoria. The picnic tables, shady trees, pitchers of icy beer and platters of barbecue and Czech food are salient features of this beer garden. This place is a must to visit on a summer weekend. There is stein-thumping folk music in most of the afternoons. It is a great place for families to enjoy their stay in Queens. Water’s Edge Restaurant is a fancy restaurant located in Long Island City. It provides magnificent views of the Manhattan skyline. The restaurant has a free water taxi to shuttle the visitor there from the East River and Manhattan’s 34th Street. The sumptuous food and especially the view make a meal at this restaurant a once in a lifetime experience for the visitor. The Lemon Ice King of Corona is a favorite place for chocolate ices and fruit flavors. It is located closer to the Louis Armstrong Museum and the Shea Stadium. These are some of the best experiences you should have if you are planning a trip to Queens.

If you love the beach, there are ample options to visit the beach without leaving Queens. Rockaway Beach is a strip of unpolluted sand on a narrow peninsula. It is linked by a subway and bridge. The cleanest beach on Rockaway is located Jacob Riis Park. Even though women can go topless at any New York public beach, not many people do so. But Jacob Riis is a federal beach that is subjected to different laws than the rest of the Rockaway Beach area. Farmer’s markets are located at 48th Ave off Corona Ave. (New York Hall of Science Farmers’ Market), at Queens Botanical Garden (Queens Botanical Garden Farmers’ Market) and 160th St. off Jamaica Ave. (Jamaica Farmers’ Market).

Hence, you may find hundreds of record stores scattered throughout the boroughs. Queens also highlights some of these modern records if you want to buy them.
There is some star-class hotels located in Flushing, which serves the LaGuardia Airport. Sheraton is one such hotel. There are so many hotels near Kennedy Airport in Jamaica. Some of the famous hotels in Jamaica are listed as three-star hotels. There are also other hotels scattered through Kew Gardens, Long Island City, Forest Hills, Elmhurst and various other neighborhoods.
